The LED vs NEON Confusion
There is no such thing as “Led Neon”. It is either LED or it is Neon. By very virtue of the fact that these companies mean to imitate Neon, it is necessary for the distinction then to be made. Neon is a gas housed in glass tubes. All Neon is handmade. LED is plastic, lasts a fraction of the time of Neon, is not repairable and non degradable. To say that one thing is the other thing is a falsity and we aim to appeal to people to recognize the importance of these definitions.
An oldie but a goodie, “History Repeats Itself…” is an article written by our founder, Meryl Pataky and something that bears repeating now that we see hundreds of “LED Neon” companies popping up, seemingly everyday.
As a community of people lovingly devoted to our craft, it has become overwhelming to see how many companies mislead consumers about their product - defining it as “Neon”. At this rate and saturation, the line between plastic and glass, real and fake are blurred to the detriment of the consumer and the planet. To learn more about this, click through to the original blog post on our Meryl’s website. The image to the left also has some great information. We hope you will.
We are featuring this article here on She Bends to preface an initiation of continuing coverage on the LED vs. Neon situation that will live here, on the She Bends blog going forward. As well, we’d like to release this article to catch our audience up to speed before we talk more about exciting initiatives within the REAL Neon community on combating these companies and their false advertising. There are certain standards in advertising set by agencies like the FTC and the ASA that restrict vendors from misleading their consumers about their products as a whole and with regard to any claims of a product being “eco friendly” or “green”.
We hope you will stick with us on this journey towards educating consumers and holding sellers accountable to truth telling. We appreciate your presence.
